I lived most of my life in Texas, but recently moved into the room, there are almost 2 years (do not ask why I'm still trying to understand why), while they get built in any way our house, they rented a house had have done no central air conditioning, not many houses here. And we went out and purchased a Sunpentown 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and it worked very well in the basement. When you buy a unit of CS must go through the BTU size.
5,000-5,200 BTU is suitable for rooms of 100-150 square meters
6000-8000 BTU is suitable for rooms of 151-350 square meters
10,000-12,000 BTU is suitable for rooms of 351-550 square meters
15,000 BTU's, parts adapted from 551-700 sqm
18,000 BTU room suitable for 701-1,000 square meters
24,000 BTU room suitable for 1,001-1,500 square meters
However, we need to save for the fans at the gates when they blew a breath of fresh air to the rooms that are not directly in the path of the air outlet. It was bought on sale for $ 400, but like I said before, it works great. You caNo air from the windows is also much cheaper (in fact, you may be able to get 2 or more) depending on the place of their rooms for the price of a standalone unit cell. Perhaps they should be seen sitting in the windows is not great and I doubt his apartment complex have any problems with it.
